The Jumeirah Emirates Towers not only looks amazing on the outside but the interior is equally impressive. Situated 12km from Dubai International Airport along the Sheikh Zayed Road, you can't miss the stunning architecture of the towers.

The hotel has 400 rooms, from deluxe rooms to suites and a 25-metre outdoor swimming pool with views of the Towers. You can shop at in the Boulevard at Jumeirah Emirates Towers which is connected to the Towers but the shops are mostly upscale boutiques. The hotel has several good restaurants to choose from, including the award winning Vu's restaurant located on the 50th floor. Unfortunately, I wasn't particularly impressed with the food there

When I arrived at the Emirates Towers, the front desk let me check-in earlier than the standard time AND they even upgraded me to one of the ten rooms on the Chopard Ladies' Floor. My check-in was smooth and the glass elevator gave me wonderful views of the lobby & Sheikh Zayed Road as I went upstairs to the 40th floor.

The service was also friendly and professional. Housekeeping sent me a fresh fruit platter everyday and gave me a miniature Chopard fragrance. Breakfast was the usual American breakfast but I like that they didn't add any sugar in the yogurt & juices

E 11 (in Arabic: شارع ﺇ ١١) is a highway in the United Arab Emirates. The longest road in the UAE, E 11 streches from the city of Abu Dhabi and ends in Ras Al Khaimah, running roughly parallel to UAE's coastline along the Persian Gulf. The road forms the main artery in some emirates' main cities, where it assumes various alternate names — Sheikh Maktoum Road in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, and Sheikh Muhammed bin Salem Road in Ras Al Khaimah.

[edit] Sheikh Zayed Road

In Dubai, E 11 is known as "Sheikh Zayed Road" (in Arabic: شارع الشيخ زايد). The highway runs parallel to the coastline from Trade Centre Roundabout to the border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi, 55 kilometres (34 mi) away in the area of Jebel Ali.^[1]

The road was formerly known as Defence Road.^[1] Between 1993 and 1998, 30 kilometres (19 mi) of the road was expanded.^[1] Along with this improvement came a change in the name. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai at the time, named the road after the then president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.^[2]

The Sheikh Zayed Road is home to most of Dubai's skyscrapers, including the Emirates Towers and the Burj Dubai. The highway also connects other new developments such as the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Dubai Waterfront. The road will soon have most of the Red Line of Dubai Metro running alongside it.

Sheikh Zayed Road has several interchanges to enable traffic to go on and off the highway. These interchanges commonly lead to roundabouts (rotaries) to enable traffic to exit or to go to the other side of the highway. There are many other exits although they are not as well equipped. As of 2007, the interchanges are:

[edit] March 2008 road accidents

On 12 March 2008, a series of accidents occurred on the highway that are considered to be one of the worst road accidents in the UAE’s history. According to the Abu Dhabi Police, 3 people were killed & 277 injured, of whom 15 were critically injured. Thick fog and poor visibility caused the accident. Around 200 vehicles crashed into each other before going up in flames.^[3]^[4]
